Copper lines cast under the concrete of a 1960s house eventually pinhole. A warm patch of floor is usually the first thing anyone notices.
Slab Leak RepairThe Catalina Foothills run up the slope below the Santa Catalinas, where mid-century houses sit beside newer custom homes on large lots. Rock and caliche close to the surface, long pipe runs and several bathrooms per house all change how a leak gets found. Tucson Emergency Plumbing connects callers here with independent plumbers.

More bathrooms means more valves, cartridges and angle stops quietly wearing out under very hard water.
Toilet & Faucet Repair
Long runs between the meter and the house, plus terraced irrigation, give water plenty of places to escape unseen.
Leak DetectionMention the approach as well as the address. Steep or narrow driveways, gates, turnarounds that will not take a full-size truck and long walks from the street are normal here and they affect what equipment can reach the work. If the meter sits well down the slope from the house, say so, because a long private supply line is its own suspect when the meter keeps moving.
The ground matters too. Caliche and rock lie close to the surface across much of the Foothills, which makes any excavation slower and more deliberate than it would be on the valley floor. That is a real factor in the price of a buried repair, and it is one reason a reroute is sometimes the better answer than digging. Ask for both options and the reasoning behind them.
Original copper supply lines under concrete, often with additions plumbed decades later in different materials. A leak search starts by working out what is where.
Hard ground slows any dig and makes an accurate location worth far more than a rough one. Nobody should be opening ground on a guess here.
Large homes often have separate wings, guest houses and more than one water heater. Say which part of the house has the problem and whether the rest is normal.
In a house whose supply lines are original, one failure is rarely the whole story. If a copper line under the slab has pinholed once, the rest of that run is the same age, in the same soil, carrying the same hard water. Repairing the spot is legitimate and it is often the right call on a newer home with an isolated problem. On a house from the 1950s or 1960s, rerouting that line overhead, or repiping in stages, frequently costs less over a decade and does far less damage to your floors. Neither answer is automatic, and you should hear the reasoning rather than a recommendation on its own.
The same repair-or-replace logic applied to hot water is on our comparison page, and slab leak warning signs covers what to watch for before it becomes urgent. South of here, the older central neighborhoods with galvanized pipe and clay sewers are covered on our Midtown Tucson plumbing page, and east of here large lots with wells and horse property are on our Tanque Verde plumbing page, or call the number and ask about leak detection first.
It comes down to which repair you pick and how hard the ground and the flooring make it. Opening the slab at one spot, rerouting the line overhead and repiping the run are three different prices, and rock or caliche on the site raises any excavation. Ask the independent plumber to locate the leak first, then price the realistic options together. See how slab leaks are located and repaired.
Tucson Emergency Plumbing covers the Catalina Foothills with meter isolation, pressure testing and acoustic listening, so the search narrows before anything gets opened. Bring the last two bills if you have them and note whether the meter moves with the house shut down. Read how leak detection works.
Availability depends on the independent provider and the property location. Mention any water escaping; detection work on a slow leak is often better booked so enough time is set aside to do it properly. If access is tight or gated, mention it when you call.
It is worth acting on, not panicking about. A warm patch with nothing above or below to explain it usually means a hot water line under the slab is losing water. Do not start breaking tile to look. Run the meter test with everything shut off, and call Tucson Emergency Plumbing so the leak can be confirmed and located properly first.
It depends on what the plumber finds along the rest of the system. One isolated failure in otherwise healthy pipe is a repair. Repeated pinholes, visible corrosion at exposed sections and a history of leaks point toward staged replacement, and that should be presented with a price rather than as advice alone. See what a pipe repair involves.
Caliche. Much of the ground here has a hard cemented layer near the surface, and it turns a quick trench into slow, careful work, particularly near a driveway, a retaining wall or landscaping you want to keep. It is also why an accurate leak location is worth paying for: the smaller the hole, the smaller the job. Read about locating a leak precisely.
